Keeping your driver’s license should be your number one goal when it comes to traffic violations. Most traffic violations are not criminal offenses, so you do not have to worry about going to jail (unless the ticket is for DUI, reckless driving, aggravated speeding, or other crimes).
However, receiving convictions for traffic violations eventually leads to your driver’s license being suspended or revoked. This could make your life difficult.
You should never plead guilty to a traffic violation if the sentence is going to be a conviction. The Illinois Secretary of State uses a point system that accumulates rapidly when you receive convictions. Inevitably, you lose your driving privileges.
If you have a CDL (commercial driver’s license), you could lose your license and, as a result, your job.
Traffic violations include, but are not limited to:
- DUI
- Driving on a suspended/revoked license
- Speeding
- Speeding in a school zone or construction zone
- Driving without insurance
- Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident
- Failure to yield
- Driving while using an electronic communication device
- Disobeying a stop sign
- Disobeying a traffic control device
How did we ever live without cell phones? Some of you may recall a more primitive time when, to call home, a person would have to pull their car over and use a pay phone. Now, everybody seems to have a cell phone. Driving while using your cell phone is…
Statistics show that you are more likely to get into a car crash than a plane crash. You might say, "True, but you are more likely to walk away from a car crash." Fair enough. Nevertheless, none of this changes the fact that traffic accidents are traumatizing experiences that happen…

If my brief google search is correct, there are only two states in this fine land that do not require its residents to have car insurance. Would you like to take a guess as to whether Illinois is one of them? Nah, don't waste your time. Number 1, below, spoils…

You may not know this, but driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license (or permit) is a crime. That's right, that little piece of plastic, with a picture of you that you probably hate, makes all the difference in the driving world. The number of repeat violations and the…
Unless you are part of the sub-species of humanity that would rather die than receive a traffic ticket, you are likely to end up in traffic court at some point in your life. Traffic court is an area within the law where you consistently see people from all walks of…
